THE rapist Iorworth Hoare faces a Court of Appeal battle this week to force him to hand over part of his £7m lottery fortune to his victims. The action has been brought by a woman aged 76 who was indecently attacked by Hoare in Leeds in 1989. Her previous attempts to obtain money have been rejected because victims can only claim compensation within six years of an attack.

Three Britons injured in cutlass attack

FOUR men were due to have appeared in court yesterday on the Caribbean island of Tobago charged with attacking three Britons with cutlasses while they were on a golfing holiday. The Britons suffered serious injuries to their eyes and heads. The men who were attacked were Michael Jones, 69, a golf course builder from Sussex; Christopher Stokes, 67, a dentist from Hampshire; and Stuart Anderson, 70.

Iranian nuclear technology allegations

GERMAN prosecutors are preparing criminal charges against a group of Germans whom they suspect of illegally helping Iran obtain technology that could be used to develop nuclear weapons. The general prosecutor’s office in Karlsruhe said it was in contact with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, the United Nations nuclear watchdog, about its investigation.

A PILOT has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk before a flight. The 45-year-old man, from Ohio, was arrested at Manchester airport before the 10.30am American Airways flight to Chicago.
