CUSTOMS officers in Cork seized 160,000 cigarettes with a street value of €50,000 after the search of a house in Douglas. It is understood that two eastern European nationals are being questioned.

ARSONISTS have set fire to a van and two cars in the Bogside area of Londonderry.
Popemobile sold
AN armoured-plated popemobile used by John Paul II during his British visit in 1982 has sold for £37,000 at auction.
Hostage family
A FAMILY of four were held hostage and robbed at gunpoint in their home at Lisburn, Co Antrim. Two men armed with guns entered the house in the Lagmore area at about 10pm on Friday and tied up the family. They then stole money and bank cards, one of which was used later.
