MPs ARE being urged to intervene in the case of Kenny Richey, the Scot who has been 17 years on Ohio’s death row. Reprieve, the human rights charity, and Amnesty International want MPs to back a brief by the Scottish barrister Mungo Bovey, QC, asking for a fair hearing. The Ohio Supreme Court decreed that Kenny should be executed even though his case “raises compelling issues of possible innocence”. Clive Stafford-Smith, founder of Reprieve, said: “Is there any point electing MPs if they are unwilling to demand a fair hearing for an innocent Scot on death row?”

The Bar’s adjudication committee made the finding after reconsidering their complaint as ordered by the Legal Services Ombudsman. The ombudsman found “serious flaws” in the Bar Council’s handling of the complaint.
