New Zealand secured a World Cup quarter-final spot thanks to the batting of Brendon McCullum (101) and Ross Taylor (74 from 44 balls) in a lopsided 97-run win over Canada.
New Zealand lead Group A with eight points and are now aiming to finish top of a pool containing three teams which have won the last five World Cup titles.
McCullum’s well-timed century was his first in 22 World Cup matches, while stand-in captain Taylor clobbered a bowling attack for the second successive match. James Franklin helped New Zealand score 31 off the last over and reach 358 for six.
Canada lost their first two wickets for four runs before Ashish Bagai’s 84 helped them to 261-9 in reply.
