Sebastian Laurence Richard Catmur
Sebastian Laurence Richard Catmur

Sebastian Laurence Richard Catmur was born on July 26, 2015, at University Hospital of Wales to Julie, 37, and Alexander Catmur, 33

Sebastian is “as wriggly outside as he was inside”, his father Alexander says, “and he’s definitely got a good smattering of both our genes”. Julie’s pregnancy went smoothly, although it was “a long time to be without wine”, and brought with it a serious craving for sausages. “He came out long and thin, so there you go,” Alexander adds.

Alert and inquisitive, Sebastian can one day channel all that energy on the softball field. His name is already on the roster for the Eversheds Hurricanes team — his father is the captain and runs a softball league in Cardiff. Hopefully when he’s not playing in matches with his parents he’ll be making dens and roaming the countryside.

Augustine Henry Nicholas Funnell was born on August 4, 2015, at King’s College Hospital in London to Flora, 37, and Nick Funnell, 38

Augustine, or Gus as he is known, is the second “easy” baby born to Flora and Nick. His 17-month-old brother Jago has been welcoming. “He’s very sweet with him,” Flora says. “He does an amusing impression of Gus crying.”

His name was neatly inspired by the month of his birth. “He was an August baby; while I was pregnant it was Gussy. We thought Augustine was better than Augustus — that reminded us of Augustus Gloop from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” He has yet to meet the family’s basset hound, Wellington, who has been staying with friends to give him time to settle in. “I thought two children and a mental dog would a bit much,” Flora says.

Harper Eliza Coates was born on November 5, 2014, at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley to Harriet, 28, and Richard Coates, 39

Harper was due on Halloween but instead arrived on Guy Fawkes night, weighing 7lb 9oz. She is the younger sister of two-year-old Kitty (New reader, Oct 12, 2013), who is always sure to give Harper a kiss before bedtime and has been generously sharing her toys. “Unfortunately for Harper she had all the hand-me-downs from her sister,” Harriet says. While Kitty has blonde hair, Harper is a redhead (thanks to genes inherited from Richard). She is a calm and relaxed baby — “a reflection of an easy and enjoyable pregnancy”. Her middle name appears on both sides of her family history.
