Buckingham Palace Dame Antonia Fraser, who was honoured for services to literature, said that collecting the insignia of her award reminded her of her late husband, Harold Pinter, who was with her on a previous visit to the Palace.

Also honoured was the consultant responsible for co-ordinating the care of British troops injured in Afghanistan, Sir Keith Porter, from the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, Birmingham.
