New captain inspires Leicester victory

Leicestershire v Glamorgan - Leicester (final day of four): Leicestershire (22pts) beat Glamorgan (5) by ten wickets

Paul Nixon was credited with inspiring Leicestershire’s maiden championship victory of the season in his first game as captain. Tom New and Arno Jacobs, the left-handed openers, needed only 25 balls yesterday to secure the win after resuming 17 runs short of the target of 24.

Tim Boon, the Leicestershire coach, said: “Nico is a winner and a great role model. I was confident the players would respond to the energy and enthusiasm that he gives to others, and that was certainly the case. I am very optimistic that we can have an excellent second half of the season.”
