New anglers cross a fine line

Continental immigrants, not understanding the British sport of catching fish and putting them back, have been illegally eating carp and pike.

Immigrants have upset angling clubs so much that the Environment Agency has issued warning notices in foreign languages.

Trevor Johnson, of the Upper Ouse Fisheries Consultative Association, said: “It makes people angry when they pay thousands to stock up with large carp, then someone sticks them on a barbecue.”
