Never a crossword

Further to the list of rules for house guests, it would be wise to add never attempting the host’s crossword

Sir, I should like to add to Philip Howard’s “rules for house guests” (Times2, July 1) with advice from the late Brian Johnson: “Never attempt the crossword in your host’s newspaper.” Given the impenetrability of those in The Times, that faux-pas can readily be avoided.
