COLIN TENWICK,
CEO, StepStone
“Years ago, I flew out to San Francisco for a series of job interviews with a competitor. On arrival, I saw two of my current company’s US directors walking into reception for an industry-wide meeting. I ran back to my car without being seen and rearranged the interview. After a couple of days of meetings, I boarded the plane home only to see the same two colleagues three rows behind me. I spent the 12-hour flight with a blanket over my head and disembarked only when the cleaners went through the plane. I got the job and I was very surprised to get an e-mail from the same US colleagues who said that they suspected something was up when a tannoy announcement at their meeting asked a ‘Colin Tenwick to come to reception’.”
