A year ago I was in a BMW belonging to Les Dennis, my former husband, driving back from Bournemouth when I was in a 33-car pile-up on the M3: I was the 33rd car.
It was a horrible rainy day and the visibility was poor. I could see a car braking in front of me so I started braking slowly and then I realised the car was still getting nearer. At the moment I realised it had stopped I slammed into the back of it.
I heard that Ed Stewart (the BBC Radio 2 DJ) was in the same crash. I felt so stupid I was the last person. Bloody typical of me! You just feel awful. You sit there in the rain and wait and pray that nobody crashes into you. Eventually I was rescued by a recovery service. I was lucky I had no injuries. The car had several thousands of pounds worth of damage but was repairable.
I still clutch my seat if I’m with Chris, my fiancé, and I think he isn’t going to brake in time. I’ve never been nervous in a car before, but now I automatically think: “Brake!”
