My best move

RICHARD NOTT, 37, Commercial director, CWJobs.co.uk

When I first left college I was determined to be something in the City, so I bought an interview suit and started looking for work. Eventually I got an interview with a prestigious recruitment company, and a few days later they called to offer me a position. I’d been impressed by their stunning offices and I was overjoyed to get the job. When I calmed down a bit, I noticed that the address I was due to report to on Day 1 wasn’t the same as the one I’d been interviewed at. It didn’t bother me at the time, but when I got there I discovered that I was expected to work in a grim, modern-day dungeon with a strange, musky smell and no natural light. My new manager told me that this was where everyone worked — they used the flash offices only for interviews. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t stay long.
