Muttiah Muralitharan caught up in egg throwing attack

Muttiah Muralitharan and two Sri Lanka officials were verbally abused and pelted with eggs in Hobart last week, it has been revealed. The off spinner was walking to Sri Lanka’s hotel with a selector and the team masseuse on Thursday night when a car repeatedly drove past them and the occupants shouted abuse and then threw eggs at them. The Sri Lankan board has asked Cricket Australia to tighten security for the team, who are in Australia for the Commonwealth Bank Series.

The first match of the series, in Brisbane, was abandoned because of heavy rain yesterday. Brett Lee took five for 27 as India were bowled out for 194 and Australia were 51 for three off 7.2 overs, chasing a revised target of 141 in 26 overs, when rain returned.
