Music Choice

It’s a testament to the mythical aura around Bob Dylan that the more ubiquitous he has become, the more mercurial he seems. The past five years have seen the singer and songwriter touring constantly, yet with increased exposure, his canonical back catalogue has, if anything, grown in resonance. Whatever songs Dylan chooses to play have been reworked, in musical terms at least: for one thing, he now favours performing on the piano rather than the guitar. Fans may be hankering for new material after the loose-limbed confidence of his 2001 album Love and Theft, but even with the respectability conferred on him by his honorary degree from St Andrews University, Dylan seems in no danger of becoming an irrevelant relic.
