Music Choice

Bob Dylan gigs are always something of a lottery, his voice, delivery and choice of songs varying significantly, as he demonstrated at his shows in the Point last November. Even his relatively weak days are never less than fascinating, and usually include at least a couple of stunning moments — at the first Point show it was a heartfelt encore of Forever Young. Outdoor, Dylan keeps it simple, building his sets largely on songs from the mid-1960s, in particular the Highway 61 Revisited album, as he did when he last played Nowlan Park, in 2001. Now 65, Dylan has a new album, Modern Times, due for release on August 28, on which his touring band backs the singer. Reports from initial playbacks to journalists in New York suggest it’s similar in style to Love and Theft, the 2001 album that began Dylan’s renaissance.
