Jah Wobble's English Roots Band

John Wardle was drunkenly called Jah Wobble by Sid Vicious during the 1970s, but the onomatopoeic quality of his moniker would only become fully apparent when John Lydon enlisted Wobble as bass guitarist in the post-punk Public Image Limited (PiL). Wobble has been sending out good vibrations ever since, a passion for reggae and dub affording his myriad projects with the signature pulsating sound. Collaboraters have ranged from Sinead O'Connor to the Edge, both of whom feature on last month's anthology release of Jah Wobble: I Could Have Been A Contender, on Trojan records. His latest offerings of dubby Northumbrian ballads indicates that while he may never have been a contender in the pop stakes, Wobble has always had class.
