Dublin act Saso have long avoided anything that could be viewed as pandering to the mainstream. The duo of James Lawler, left, and Ben Rawlins self-released their two albums to date — Big Group Hug and I Can Do Nice — while shunning press exposure if at all possible and largely eschewing live appearances. All of which is a pity, for while the music is hardly chart fodder, their guitar-based, electronic-tinged sound has long traced an enjoyably idiosyncratic line between Sigur Ros at their more accessible and Radiohead at their more adventurous, with their use of Seinfeld samples giving a refreshing undertow of humour. This rare outbreak of live activity coincides with the impending release of their new album, The Middle Ages — only on sale online — and while it is unlikely to raise their profile, behind the faceless image lies a body of accessible music deserving of a wider audience.
