Moving on: Buyer falls for Purcell pad

Former actress and journalist can pursue dream of riding a motorbike across America after selling her trendy northside pad

The novelist Deirdre Purcell has found a buyer for her Dublin home on the city’s northside. The former actress and journalist was looking for in the region of €460,000 for the three-bedroom semi in Glasnevin, Dublin 11, which recently had a trendy architectural makeover courtesy of the award-winning Dublin practice Mesh. Purcell, who has written 20 novels including Falling for a Dancer and two non-fiction titles, said she plans to travel, including riding a motorbike across America.

CLOSED-CIRCUIT CAMERON

Cameron Diaz, 37, has decided it is time for some cosmetic surgery — for her Los Angeles home. The revamp of her hideaway in Long Beach will include the installation of cameras to enable the Charlie’s Angels star to keep an eye on it from her New York pad, where she spends most of her time. The actress is said to have hired a Swedish designer to overhaul the beachside property. Apparently, she wants clean lines and uninterrupted views.

O’CONNOR’S CORNER

If you ever wondered why the ubiquitous former TV chat show host Brendan O’Connor liked to work so much, perhaps it was for the peace and quiet during the building of the Aviva Stadium. O’Connor’s home, a modest redbrick townhouse in Pembroke Grove, Dublin 4, is near the new ground, which has just been completed. Now, though, he is selling the three-bed for €465,000. It was built just five years ago but O’Connor added a kitchen and sunroom even so.
