More shirt, William

The past few days has given ample opportunity for men to show off their sartorial elegance — particularly the Royal Family

Sir, Steve Chambers (letter, June 5) suggests that the cause of my unhappiness with men’s standards of dress is the need for tie, jacket, waistcoat and, just occasionally, top hat.

The formal occasions over the weekend show that it is the adoption of these items that assists men to achieve a higher standard than otherwise.

Congratulations to all concerned with matters sartorial over the past few days, though a note to Prince William’s tailor: shorten the jacket cuffs to show more shirt as demonstrated by his father.
