Mix and match

Sir, Dr Robert Newmark (letter, September 10) wants to know if human females carry a gene that tells them what colours “go” with each other.

Ten years ago, pink did not “go” with orange. Now, apparently, it does. The gene at work here is one which allows the human female to make such decisions arbitrarily, and then maintain that they form the unconditional truth.

Yours sincerely,

RICHARD ATKINSON-WILLES,

Lains Farm, Quarley,

Andover, Hampshire SP11 8PX.
