Mills & Reeve, which dates back to 1789, works with clients ranging from well-established FTSE 250 stalwarts to start-ups and private individuals.

This year the firm advised a longstanding client in a £52 million financing of Berry Bros & Rudd, Britain’s oldest wine and spirit merchant, which has traded from the same shop since 1698 and had not refinanced in 86 years.

A series of cyberinsurance cases led to Mills & Reeve acting in connection with a number of multimillion-pound claims. One case involved a debilitating ransomware attack that brought a production plant to a standstill.

As the Covid-19 pandemic gathered pace last year, the firm rolled out its Life Questions app. This allows users to put their affairs in order rapidly should they fear the worst. Created in eight days and available free to NHS workers, the app has been downloaded thousands of times.
