Miles & Partners is renowned for its work in areas such as community care, family mediation, housing and mental health law. Its clients include the homeless, elderly people with dementia and local businesses.

Recent instructions have included helping a victim of domestic violence to keep her home after an error by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) meant that she faced eviction. The woman had obtained an injunction to exclude her husband from the marital home, a rented property where he was a joint tenant. Erroneously deeming that she was now liable for only half the rent, the DWP halved her universal credit allowance for housing. She was unable to cover the rent so fell into arrears and was threatened with eviction by her landlord.

The firm convinced the DWP to reinstate the correct amount of universal credit and pay previous underpayments to clear the arrears.
