Agricola Chansons
Harmonis Mundi
Largely forgotten since his death 500 years ago, Agricola was famous in his day, active as a singer and composer in France, Italy and the Low Countries. His counterpoint consists of short, often imitative, beautifully balanced phrases and strong, dancing rhythms. The viol consort Fretwork caress his leaping lines with sensuous tone, while the counter-tenor Michael Chance slows the pace with a rich, slightly laboured voice.
