The Earl of Lichfield

The Queen was represented by Mr James Hawley, Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire, at a memorial service for the Earl of Lichfield held yesterday in Lichfield Cathedral, Staffordshire.

The Prince of Wales was represented by Lord Stafford.

The Very Rev Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, officiated, assisted by the Very Rev Michael Yorke, Dean Emeritus, who led the prayers.

The Earl of Lichfield, son, and the Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire read the lessons.

Lady Rose Anson, daughter, read The Garden by Vita Sackville-West, and Lady Eloise Anson, daughter, read Success by Robert Louis Stevenson.

General Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank gave an address.

The Right Rev Jonathan Gledhill, Bishop of Lichfield, led the commendation and pronounced the blessing.

Sergeant Samuel Crooks, flute, and Lance Corporal James Brincat-Smith, drum, of the band of the Grenadier Guards played The Grenadiers’ Return.
