Lieutenant-Colonel Sir John Johnston

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended a service of thanksgiving for the life of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir John Johnston held yesterday in the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks.

The Prince of Wales was represented by Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Malcolm Ross, the Duke of York by Major William McLean, the Earl and Countess of Wessex by Mr Christopher Rhys-Jones and the Princess Royal by Rear-Admiral Timothy Laurence.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were present.

The Duke of Kent was represented by Lieutenant-Commander Sir Richard Buckley, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent by Mr Nicholas Chance and Princess Alexandra by Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Macfarlane.

Viscount Linley, accompanied by Viscountess Linley, gave an address.

Lady Sarah and Mr Daniel Chatto attended.

The Rev Patrick Irwin, senior chaplain to the Household Division, officiated, assisted by Dom Alberic Stacpoole Captain Esmond Fairbanks-Smith read the lesson and Mr Christopher Johnston, son, read If by Rudyard Kipling.
