Baroness Strange

The Queen was represented by Diana Lady Farnham at a service of thanksgiving for the life and work of Baroness Strange held yesterday at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey. The Prince of Wales was represented by Major-General Arthur Denaro.

Canon Robert Wright, Rector of St Margaret’s Church, officiated, assisted by the Rev Graeme Napier, Minor Canon and Succentor of Westminster Abbey, who led the prayers, and Mrs Jenny Green, Chairman of the War Widows’ Association.

Dr the Hon Humphrey Drummond, and the Hon John Drummond, sons, read from Creatures Great and Small by their mother.

The Hon Charlotte Drummond, the Duchess of Magenta and the Hon Mrs Catherine Herdman, daughters, read passages entitled Beauty, The White Tower and Chapel Vigil from Love is For Ever written by their mother. The Marquess of Salisbury gave an address.

During the prayers, Lady Strange’s grandchildren bore flowers from Megginch up to the Altar. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Westminster, the Lord Chancellor and the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod attended.
