Martin O’Neill has finally signed his two-year contract extension to stay on as Ireland manager until 2020.
The FAI announced last night that O’Neill and his backroom team, including assistant manager Roy Keane, will stay on until the end of the Euro 2020 campaign, ending a saga that has run since before Ireland’s 5-1 World Cup play-off defeat by Denmark in Dublin.
O’Neill had verbally agreed an extension last October but had left his future open to speculation by not signing the deal.
The 65-year-old was linked with the vacant Everton post before Sam Allardyce took charge, and earlier this month held talks with Stoke City to replace Mark Hughes. O’Neill’s representatives met the FAI’s legal team to finalise the deal on Monday.
