THE BRIT OVAL (Surrey won toss): Gloucestershire Gladiators (2pts) beat Surrey Brown Caps by five wickets
A BRILLIANT pursuit under lights by Gloucestershire has virtually assured them of promotion. They owed victory to their Antipodean pair of Ian Harvey — with a blistering 91 from 69 balls — and Hamish Marshall — a superb century off 84 — whose third-wicket stand of 160 came in 21 overs.
Surrey did not bowl or field well and Gloucestershire chased down a formidable target with 11 balls remaining.
The Brown Caps had threatened to make 300 when Scott Newman, with a 37-ball fifty, and James Benning thrashed 121 for the first wicket in 16 overs. Both were out trying to pull Steve Kirby and with four wickets falling in the space of six overs, Surrey’s run-rate was pegged back.
