Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in a street following a row with a gang of youths.

Essex police were called to Caister Drive in Basildon at about 9.30pm last night after reports that a man in his forties had been found with serious injuries.

He was taken by air ambulance to Basildon Hospital but died from his injuries.

A police spokesman said: “The victim, who lived in Basildon, is thought to have been stabbed during an altercation with a group of around five youths or young men.”
