Man ‘shot fidgeting son’

A MAN who is alleged to have shot his two-year-old son in the head because he would not sit still on a car journey is to be tried for attempted murder.

Police in Puerto Rico are also charging Eddie Rolón Cruz, 29, with child abuse, kidnapping and weapons violations, after finding the child strapped into his car seat outside San Juan, the capital, with bullet wounds to the head, lip and shoulder.

Mr Rolón is also alleged to have expressed doubts over the paternity of the boy. He first told police that the car had been stolen with the child inside but later made incriminating statements about the shooting.

Lieutenant Eladio Neris Mulero, director of the homicide division of the city of Carolina, said that authorities were prepared to upgrade the charges to murder if the child, Jean Daniel Rolón Soto, dies. (AP)
