I ask her now to take a stand on the issue of Romania’s moratorium on foreign adoption.
After seeing the abandoned babies languishing in the Romanian hospital, does she believe that stopping all extra-country adoption is a better solution than making Romania’s adoption system safe, corruption-free and transparent?
Does the risk of potential misdeeds of would-be child traffickers justify stopping such adoptions?
My family has been trying to adopt a Romanian girl since she was one; she is now four and a half. She is relatively lucky because she lives in a home that is run by our (not-for-profit) adoption agency. This is, however, a very poor substitute for having a permanent family.
Thus far we have refused to give up the hope that the powers that be will come to their senses. Many lives are on hold as a result of this policy.
