Sir, The recent trade deals agreed between the UK and China (report, June 28) have certainly been put into perspective by those signed between China and Germany. If David Cameron and his colleagues feel contracts worth $2.3 billion were a triumph, just imagine how much more satisfied the German Chancellor and her government must feel having secured contracts worth $15 billion.
There was a time when Britain knew how to network, trade and win contracts; sadly it would appear that many British companies have lost the desire to compete. Rather than wringing our hands it is time for us all to rediscover that spirit of enterprise that once saw products stamped “Made in England” or “British Made” the products of choice from the Argentine to the Horn of Africa.
