Queen Victoria was on the throne and civil war was gripping America when 31-year-old Thomas MacRobert established his law firm in Paisley in 1861. Offices were to follow in Glasgow in 1910 and Edinburgh in 1985, with the Paisley branch closing its doors for good two years later.
More recently, the firm expanded by incorporating the debt recovery specialist Yuill+ Kyle in 2017 and the private client outfit Murray Snell in 2019. Areas of expertise include banking and finance, commercial property, employment, intellectual property, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, MacRoberts has an extensive family law operation and advises a wide range of public sector clients, including the Scottish government and local authorities.
This year the firm announced its impending merger with Edinburgh-based Morton Fraser, to create a 250-lawyer operation that will become a member of a new Scottish “big four”.
