Post-War
4AD
Matt Ward’s fifth studio album self- consciously echoes an earlier era, when America won wars and recordings seemed beamed from Mars. This set of wildly varied songs, most of them swathed in warm and nostalgic echo, plugs the gap between then and now as successfully as Ward’s English counterpart, Richard Hawley. Friends such as Neko Case and Jim James contribute to this outstanding collection, which ought to elevate Ward to star status.
