TRENT BRIDGE (Nottinghamshire won toss): Warwickshire Bears (2pts) beat Nottinghamshire Outlaws by five wickets (D/L method)
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE’S slim hopes of winning the first division were washed away last night when Warwickshire dodged the storms and showers to prevail. By winning their final game in the league, the Bears ensured that they would avoid automatic relegation.
As Warwickshire set off in pursuit of the Outlaws’ total of 191 for nine, play was interrupted after 9.1 overs, initially because the floodlights had to be lowered while electric storms passed near the ground and later because of heavy drizzle. The target was revised to 121 in 21 overs and, thanks to a stand of 50 in seven overs between Tim Ambrose and Alex Loudon, Warwickshire cantered home with seven balls to spare. David Hussey had earlier hit a belligerent 73 off 85 balls for the Outlaws, rescuing them from 86 for five.
