Today: Thorntons, the British confectionery retailer that announced a strategic review in June, led by John von Spreckelsen, its new chairman, will unveil its full-year results. Details of the review are expected to be published alongside today’s figures. In a sales and trading update in July, Thorntons reported a 5.9 per cent slump in total company sales in the 24 weeks to June. Sales fell to £176.6 million, from £187.7 million the previous year. Retail sales were down 5.3 per cent to £127 million after a net closure of two stores and like-for-like sales for the full year were down 3.7 per cent.
In the health sector, Gyrus Group and Evolutec will report their first-half results. Gyrus, which makes keyhole surgery equipment, said in July that it expected the group’s reported revenues for the first half of the year to be about £107 million, a rise of more than 125 per cent on the previous year’s £47.3 million. Evolutec, the biotech company developing products based on the saliva of ticks, will give an update on two clinical trials that began in the first half.
