Liam Livingstone scored his maiden first-class century to get Lancashire to 493 for nine before declaring to give Somerset a tricky six overs to face at the end of the day in their division one match. The 22-year-old, batting at No 7, got to his century in just 139 balls with nine fours and two sixes.

England’s Ben Stokes took four wickets at the Kia Oval to help Durham to dismiss Surrey for 457. There was a century opening partnership between Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings, before both fell in quick succession. The rain hit south London to end the day prematurely with Durham 156 for two trailing by 301.

At Hove, only 43 overs were possible but they saw new Leicestershire opener Paul Horton score a classy and chanceless century in division two.

It was another tough day for Sussex as Leicestershire moved to 300 to pick up another batting bonus point and extend their first-innings lead to 137 before the weather intervened to end the day’s proceedings. Sussex scored 163. Kent extended their lead over Glamorgan to 228 thanks to half-centuries from the recently turned 40-year-old, Darren Stevens, and Mitchell Claydon.

At New Road, Essex again showed their batting dominance against Worcestershire. Tom Westley and Alastair Cook, the openers, scored their second and third centuries of the season respectively.
