Some nice scenes as David Luiz is congratulated by some of the Chelsea ground staff. But Diego Costa tangles with Yohan Cabaye, who wasn’t even playing tonight, which sums up his night too. Congratulations to PSG but it’s been an awful few weeks for English clubs in Europe. Manchester City and Arsenal it’s over to you.

alyson rudd@allyrudd_times CFC spent too long caressing, in the manner of a sad old miser, their away goal instead of enjoying the advantage it gave them

James Masters @Masters_JamesD PSG magnificent tonight. Better team all night. Chelsea got what they deserved...absolutely nothing.

FULL TIME: Chelsea 2 PSG 2 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86, Silva 114) PSG have killed the game brilliantly - a stunning result given they played for 90 minutes with ten men. But in truth Chelsea were awful and PSG are very worthy winners on away goals. Sweet revenge for going out on away goals here last season.

117 mins Chelsea 2 PSG 2 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86, Silva 114) The whole ground is stunned. What a way for Silva to redeem himself. But it’s thoroughly deserved - PSG have played nearly all the football despite being a man down. Mourinho needs a miracle.

James Masters @Masters_JamesD There’s your Silva lining...

GOAL! Chelsea 2 PSG 2 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86, Silva 114) Almost carbon copy - great leap from Silva whose header this time finds the net. Amazing stuff! Chelsea need to score again or they’re out.

112 mins Chelsea 2 PSG 1 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86) Brilliant save from Courtois from Silva’s header - almost made amends.

110 mins Chelsea 2 PSG 1 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86) Willian gives a free kick away in a dangerous position but the chance is wasted with a terrible delivery that finds the first defender - Chelsea work the ball into the PSG box but Costa blazes wide.

104 mins Chelsea 2 PSG 1 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86) Costa does well to shrug off the attentions of Marquinho who goes down and secures an unwarranted free kick.

100 mins Chelsea 2 PSG 1 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86) Luiz tries an audacious freekick from fully 35 yards that almost catches out Courtois but the Belgian manages to stretch and tip it over the bar.

98 mins Chelsea 2 PSG 1 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86) Hardly deserved from Chelsea and a real moment of madness from Silva. What was he thinking? A PSG equaliser would put them in the driving seat again.

GOAL! Chelsea 2 PSG 1 (Cahill 81, Hazard pen 96; Luiz 86) Thiago Silva is the guilty man, giving away a needless spotkick by handling. Hazard strokes home the pen with deceptive ease. Chelsea in the driving seat.

PENALTY TO CHELSEA!

Didier Drogba is on in place of the largely ineffective Ramires. And we’re back underway.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Belatedly bold move by Mourinho to bring on Drogba. #cfc paid the price for conservatism against 10 men.

James Masters @Masters_JamesD That’s the least #PSG performance warranted. Chelsea so lethargic, no pace, no ingenuity. Visitors will fancy this..maybe

FULL TIME Chelsea 1 PSG 1 Extra-time looms thanks to David Luiz’s brilliant header. Thoroughly deserved as well. Chelsea by no means certain to win despite the man advantage. In Munich Mario Gotze adds a seventh to finish Shakhtar’s humiliation.

90 mins Chelsea 1 PSG 1 (Cahill 81; Luiz 86) Costa a very lucky boy - angry at not getting a free kick he pushes Marquinhos over and was very lucky the referee had his back turned.

89 mins Chelsea 1 PSG 1 (Cahill 81; Luiz 86) Silly challenge on Hazard by Cavani - Fabregas’s dainty freekick headed over by Thiago Silva.

86 mins Chelsea 1 PSG 1 (Cahill 81; Luiz 86) Both goals from corners. PSG couldn’t clear theirs and Cahill did well to fire in a ball that no-one else could control. But Luiz’s header was astonishingly good. Chelsea looked dead on their feet prior to that. What have they got left?

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): PSG deserved that equaliser as they’ve played the better football with 10 men, but David Luiz didn’t deserve to score it.

GOAL! Chelsea 1 PSG 1 (Cahill 81; Luiz 86) Bullet header from ... who else?... Luiz - Courtois had no chance. Game on.

83 mins Chelsea 1 (Cahill 81) PSG 0 Lavezzi has the chance to draw PSG immediately level but his firm header is straight at Courtois who parries clear.

GOAL! Chelsea 1 (Cahill 81) PSG 0 A rare moment of quality from Chelsea as Gary Cahill finds the back of the net with the sweetest of strikes from the edge of the box.

80 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Great chance for Chelsea as Ramires bears down on goal but Sirigu stands strong to deflect wide.

78 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 The game has become a stop-start catalogue of fouls. Motta is the latest player to end up on the floor but the referee sees nothing wrong in Fabregas’s challenge.

9.20pm And Bayern have six as Robert Lewandowski compunds Shakhtar’s misery.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Costa’s challenge for a yellow far worse than Ibrahimovic’s, but doubt Mourinho will agree. Having said that Luiz very lucky to still be on.

71 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Well that sums up the game - a dreadful challenge from Costa deservedly gets the yellow card but Luiz then tries to get him sent off and also gets a card for his trouble. For a game that promised much in the early stages this has been an ugly disjointed mess. And a referee’s nightmare.

James Masters @Masters_JamesD Horrible challenge by Costa...embarrassing from Luiz...pathetic all around

63 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 You’d never guess that PSG were a man light - Chelsea look happy to hang on here as the French champions throw bodies forward.

9.05pm Five now for Bayern with defender Holger Badstuber putting away a firm header.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Cavani has missed enough chances in four matches against Chelsea to have won the Champions League twice on his own.

57 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Massive chance wasted by Cavani who is set through on goal. Courtois does well to force him wide but the Uruguayan skips passed him only to see his shot delect off the post and spin wide. Big moment in the game to add to the one he missed last year.

... but agonisingly sees his shot come back off the post

STEFAN WERMUTH/REUTERS

53 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Better from PSG who work the ball well on the edge of the box. Maxwell storms into the area but his firm shot is deflected over. In Munich two quick goals from Ribery and Muller’s second of the game have put Bayern 4-0 up.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Odd tactics from Blanc to draw Chelsea into a cynical, niggly pitched battle. Unlikely to beat Mourinho at his own game.

51 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Another Willian freekick drops nicely for Gary Cahill but the defender can’t get a firm boot on the loose balll and it’s cleared.

49 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Willian miscues a free kick but forces a save from an unconvincing Sirigu. Chelsea on the front foot.

Matt Dickinson (@DickinsonTimes): No surprise Oscar off. Mourinho went crackers at him shortly before h-t when almost got a second booking

Substitution for Chelsea: Oscar was walking a disciplinary tightrope after that yellow card so Mourinho swaps him for Willian. A wise choice you would think.

James Masters @Masters_JamesD Abundantly clear that referees need more help...why is football so stubborn? It’s time for video technology, get those trials sorted.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Referee has had three big decisions to make (sending off, Luiz elbow, Costa penalty) and got them all wrong.

HALF TIME: Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Not exactly the greatest advert for football but it’s been gripping, gnarly and niggly. Referee Björn Kuipers will have both Mourinho and Blanc in his ear, it’s not been the best 45 minutes for the Dutch official, even if though this game has been bedlam at times. Surely there will be further cards with PSG in danger of completely losing control after Ibrahimovic’s red card. But with chances at a premium and Chelsea with a man advantage you have to fancy the home side to hold on. Bayern two-up at half time at the Allianz Arena.

45 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Decent chance for Chelsea but neither Cahill nor Terry can get on the end of Ramires’ floated free kick.

43 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Big penalty shout as Costa goes down under Cavani’s challenge in the box. Looked like a certain spot kick but the ref isn’t interested. Both teams now aggrieved with him.

40 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 David Luiz has been really involved tonight but not in much football wise - allegedly telling Mourinho that “we’ll win with ten men” after the sending off before hauling down Costa.

Luiz has words with Mourinho after the sending off

ANDREW MATTHEWS/PA

Matt Dickinson (@DickinsonTimes): If I was David Luiz, wouldn’t walk down any dark alleys later....

38 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Yellow cards aplenty here - Motta, Oscar and Matuidi all in the book - we’ll be lucky to have 21 players on the pitch at the end at this rate,

8.23pm Bayern now two-up through Jerome Boateng - that tie is pretty much over you would think.

Matt Dickinson (@DickinsonTimes): Harsh red on Zlatan. Ref mistakenly thinks he’s gone in 2-footed. Blanc can blame ref, Uefa, Unicef etc

32 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 This is getting very heated now with PSG still incensed. The ref needs to get a grip or this is in danger of boiling over.

RED CARD! Ibrahimovic and Oscar both dive in for the ball but the Swede is adjudged to be the guilty party. A debatable decision to be sure with both teams now squaring up to one another. PSG are furious that Chelsea’s reaction to the challenge may have contributed to the sending off. Big Ibra has been anonymous tonight but this is a game changer

23 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 At last some attacking intent from Chelsea as Eden Hazard fashions a neat one-two with Ramires but he’s incorrectly adjudged offside as he bears down on goal with marker Luiz floundering.

20 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 The home team seem happy to soak up PSG pressure so far with very little to show in the attacking third. Dangerous game to play you would think but it’s working so far.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Ramires collision with Verratti falls into the “seen them given” category. Let off for #Chelsea, who are being outplayed presently

15mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Chelsea under the pump here as PSG shout for a penalty when the often-theatrical Marco Verratti goes down under Ramires’ challenge but the ref is not interested.

11 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 David Luiz got a great reception from the Chelsea supporters on his return to Stamford Bridge. But he gets a decidedly less friendly one from Diego Costa and refuses the Spaniard’s handshake to continue the evening’s theme. Meanwhile, in tonight’s other game, Bayern Munich are one-up over Shakhtar Donetsk, courtesy of Thomas Muller’s fourth-minute penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way. Shakhtar are also down to ten men with Olexandr Kuchar shown a straight red card for the offence

9 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 A slightly niggly start with Fabregas on the end of a couple of fearsome PSG challenges and refusing Matuidi’s apologetic handshake. Both teams are weaing black armbands in memory of the French sportsmen and women who died in a helicopter crash in Argentina on Monday.

Matt Hughes (@MattHughesTimes): Very impressive start from PSG, who don’t resemble Shrewsbury at the moment.

4 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Slight concern for Chelsea as Costa is caught late by Pastore but after a brief delay the big Spaniard is ok to continue.

2 mins Chelsea 0 PSG 0 Great start from the French side as a twisting Cavani almost gets on the end a slide-rule pass. Terry does well to block and the resulting corner is wasted.

Matt Dickinson (@DickinsonTimes): Liking PSG’s change kit. More fashion analysis to follow...

7.45pm And we’re under way. Fantastic atmosphere at Stamford Bridge with the French fans very noisy. Chelsea have a splendid record in reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. Can they make it ten in 13 attempts? We’re about to find out.

Good evening and welcome to our coverage of tonight’s Champions League from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were lucky to get away with a 1-1 draw in Paris, thanks largely to the efforts of Thibaut Courtois and a misfiring Edinson Cavani.

Not that you’d have gathered that from José Mourinho’s catty pre-match comments where he basically suggested PSG showed all the finesse of an off colour Hartlepool United on the night while inferring the French giants were more intent on beating up Chelsea than playing football. Which I’m sure will be news to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co.

Chelsea hold the advantage thanks to Branislav Ivanovic’s headed away goal and make one change from the side that beat West Ham a week ago with Nemanja Matic replacing Kurt Zouma who drops to the bench.

Two changes for the French champions from the reverse fixture in Paris. Italian midfielder Thiago Motta, who missed the first leg with a calf injury, and Javier Pastore, the Argentina winger, replace Gregory van der Wiel, the Netherlands right back, and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Fabregas, Matic; Ramires, Oscar, Hazard; Diego Costa.

PSG: Sirigu, Marquinhos, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Thiago Motta, Matuidi, Verratti, Pastore, Cavani, Ibrahimovic.
