Sir, I have been an avid sports fan for more than 40 years. I especially enjoyed Brazil playing soccer, Tiger Woods excelling at golf and the All Blacks being the best rugby team in the world.
I was deeply saddened to see New Zealand losing the game despite winning the match on Saturday (Sport, June 27).
The cold-blooded, calculated tackle on Brian O’Driscoll has completely changed my regard for the All Blacks.
Rugby is a hard game and we can all understand players getting angry in the heat of the moment, but an apparently preplanned attack is a different matter.

From Mr Julian Thomas
Sir, In my earlier letter (April 13) I said that the selection of the Lions’ party did not reflect current performances. The team played by Sir Clive Woodward in the first international equally did not represent recognition of form shown on the tour to date. The game has moved on since the 2003 World Cup. The All Blacks play it and Wales recognise it. Clive Woodward clearly does not.
