Life’s like that

Sir, I note that Mr Paul Miller’s disasters (letter, September 15) came in a group of three.

When, one day last week, I fell downstairs at home in the morning and was stung by a wasp upon arrival at work, I nervously awaited the final mishap. In the evening, when my husband trod on my toe, my relief was considerable.

Yours faithfully,

MAUREEN MORRIS,

Kenton, Middlesex HA3 0JR.

Sir, Some years ago when my lifelong friend was a student at Oxford he developed a foolproof method for determining how the day might turn out.

On the shelf above his bed were two large, foam rubber dice. Before rising, my friend would throw one on to the floor. If it showed a score of three or less, he would remain beneath the covers. If he didn’t get the “right” answer with the first die, he would roll the second one.

Yours sincerely,

JOHN BRAY,
