Lewis Nedas Law is representing one of the members of a retired police officers’ WhatsApp group that is reported to have exchanged racist messages about Meghan Markle. The Lewis Nedas Law director Miles Herman is acting for Anthony Elsom, who retired from the Met more than ten years ago. In September Elsom pleaded guilty at Westminster magistrates’ court to three counts of sending by public communication grossly offensive racist messages. The charges followed a BBC investigation alleging that some of the racist messages were about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It also represented Olusofa Popoola, a driver who pressed the accelerator rather than the brake on his bus, sending it crashing into a stationary bus that hit Melissa Burr, who died from multiple injuries. Popoola was acquitted by a jury of causing death by dangerous driving. He had earlier admitted the less serious charge of causing death by careless driving and is due to be sentenced in November.
