Leigh Bromby makes switch to Leeds

Leigh Bromby has fulfilled a childhood ambition by signing for Leeds United, the club he supported while growing up in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, only two months after rejoining Sheffield United from Watford.

The 29-year-old defender spent the latter half of last season on loan back at Bramall Lane only 12 months after leaving Sheffield United for Watford. “There was no decision to make once I knew Leeds were interested,” Bromby, who signed a four-year contract after his £250,000 move, said. Simon Grayson, the Leeds manager, has also signed David Somma, the striker, from San Jose Earthquakes on a one-year deal.

Leeds have loaned Tom Lees to Accrington Stanley and Alan Sheehan to Oldham Athletic — who have also signed Joe Colbeck for an undisclosed fee from Bradford City.

Charlton Athletic made a double signing by bringing in Leon McKenzie, on a one-year deal from Coventry City, and Luke Holden, on loan from Rhyl with a view to a permanent deal. Zheng Zhi, whose contract at The Valley expired in the summer, was last night close to joining Celtic.

Peter Taylor moved to strengthen Wycombe Wanderers’ attempt to stabilise their status in Coca-Cola League One by bringing Kevin Betsy, a former Adams Park favourite, back to the club from Southend United.
