Leicester City will appeal against the red card that Jamie Vardy received during Saturday’s 2-2 Premier League draw at Stoke City.
Vardy was sent off by referee Craig Pawson for what he deemed a dangerous challenge on Mame Diouf in the 28th minute of the match.
The England forward is facing a three-match ban, meaning he will miss their league games against Everton, West Ham United and Middlesbrough over the Christmas and New Year period. As it stands, he will not be able to play again until Leicester travel to Everton for an FA Cup third-round tie on January 7.
However, his club feel they have a case to get the punishment overturned, and will argue that Vardy was knocked off balance by Glen Johnson, the Stoke full back, in the build-up to the incident.
Having challenged with Johnson, Vardy jumped into the tackle on Diouf with both feet appearing to leave the ground, although he did win the ball.

Claudio Ranieri, the Leicester manager, indicated in the immediate aftermath of the match that he would consider an appeal, believing that there was no malice in the challenge.
It was Vardy’s second dismissal of 2016, after he was sent off during April’s 2-2 draw at home to West Ham, having collected a second booking for diving.

Ranieri was so angry about the red card that the Italian confronted Pawson as the players walked off at half-time, although the manager is unlikely to face any punishment for those actions.
The FA will, however, fine Leicester £25,000, an automatic sanction imposed on any team who have six or more players booked in one match.
Ranieri’s side collected six yellow cards at the Bet365 Stadium, with Christian Fuchs and Robert Huth both picking up their fifth bookings of the season, meaning they will serve one-match suspensions when Everton visit the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day.

Leicester recovered from 2-0 down with ten men to draw at Stoke after Leonardo Ulloa and Daniel Amartey scored in the final 16 minutes.
It was only the second away point that Ranieri’s side have earned in the league this season; the defending champions are 15th in the table.
