Andrew Paul Lander Woolman has been appointed a circuit judge, assigned to the Northern Circuit with effect from Wednesday, June 28. Mr Woolman, 56, was called to the Bar (I) in 1973. He was authorised to sit as an assistant recorder in 1992 and appointed as a recorder in 1997, both on the North Eastern Circuit.

Abbas Mithani has been appointed a circuit judge assigned to the Midlands Circuit with effect from Friday, July 28. District Judge Mithani was admitted as a solicitor in 1981. He was appointed as a deputy district judge in 1993 and as district judge in 1999, both on the Midlands Circuit. He was appointed as a recorder on the Midlands Circuit in 2000, and has also sat as a deputy bankruptcy registrar since 1994.

Anthony Simon Lissant Cleary has been appointed a circuit judge, assigned primarily to the Worcester Combined Court Centre with effect from Wednesday, June 28. District Judge Cleary, 60, was admitted as a solicitor in 1971, authorised to sit as an assistant recorder in 1989 and was appointed as a recorder in 1993, both on the Midlands Circuit. He was appointed as a district judge in 1986, also on the Midlands Circuit.

Peter John Hugh Devlin has been appointed a district judge and will be based at Slough County Court. Mr Devlin, 50, was admitted as a solicitor in April 1983. He then joined Franklins solicitors in Abingdon, becoming a partner in 1985 and was appointed as a deputy district judge in 1999.

Paul Anthony Spencer has been appointed a senior immigration judge of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal with effect from June 19. Mr Spencer, 65, was called to the Bar (I) in 1965. He was appointed as a fee-paid immigration adjudicator of the Immigration Appellate Authority (IAA) in February 2001 and appointed as a salaried immigration adjudicator in August 2002. He became a salaried immigration judge with the new tribunal in April 2005.
