Appointments

Christopher Douglas Gamwell has been appointed a district judge, assigned to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Great Grimsby Combined Court Centre, with effect from April 18, 2011. Judge Gamwell, 56, was admitted as a solicitor in 1981 and was appointed as a deputy district judge in 2008.

Sharon Heels has been appointed a district judge, assigned to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Teesside Combined Court Centre with effect from March 29, 2011. Judge Heels, 42, was admitted as a solicitor in 1993 and was appointed as a deputy district judge in 2005.

Retirements

Gillian Marguerite Marley retired as a district judge on March 4, 2011. Judge Marley, 65, was admitted as a solicitor in 1983. She was appointed as a deputy district judge in 1990 and as a district judge in 1993.

Brian George Allen Mitchell retired as an employment judge on February 28, 2011. Judge Mitchell, 64, was admitted as a solicitor in 1970. He was appointed as a fee-paid employment judge in 1992 and as a salaried employment judge in 1995.

Grayham Preston Smith retired as a judge of the First-Tier Tribunal, assigned to the Social Entitlement Chamber, on February 28, 2011. Judge Smith, 70, was admitted as a solicitor in 1965. He was appointed as a fee-paid chairman of the Social Security Appeal Tribunals in 1988; as a salaried chairman of the Social Security Appeal Tribunals, Medical Appeal Tribunals, Disability Appeal Tribunals and Child Support Appeal Tribunals in 1993; and as a fee-paid legal member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal in 1999.
