Carolyn Ann Fitzherbert Mellanby has been appointed a district judge (magistrates’ courts), assigned to the South Eastern Circuit, based at courts in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, with effect from June 23, 2009.
Mrs Mellanby, 57, was called to the Bar (G) in 1975 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1990. She was appointed a deputy district judge (magistrates’ courts) in 1999. She served as a magistrate in the Seychelles between 1982 and 1984.
Murray George Shanks has been appointed a circuit judge, assigned to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Snaresbrook Crown Court with effect from June 17, 2009.
Mr Shanks, 48, was called to the Bar (M) in 1984. He was appointed as a recorder in 2003 and as a fee-paid deputy chairman of the Information Tribunal in 2007.
