The idea of Valentine’s night in a restaurant full of couples all tucking into the same menu turns my warm heart to ice. Far more seductive to stay home and conjure your own Valentine’s evening.
I’m keen on Lebanese food and turning the little mezze dishes into a main meal spread. I’ve chosen a few dishes that are quick and simple to make but look impressive. They are also light and healthy and could be turned into a complete meal with, say, ready-made falafel with salata tahina, a sauce made by thinning a dollop of tahini with lemon juice and water, and beating until it magically turns smooth.
Another idea is to limit starters but have ready the Lebanese shepherds’ pie. It’s quick to make and could be prepared 24 hours in advance.
