Jake Robinson, who moved on loan from Shrewsbury to Torquay in January, scored twice against his parent club as his new side thrashed them 5-0. Shrewsbury had to play the second half with 10 men after Jermaine Grandison’s 42nd-minute sending-off.
Gavin Tomlin gave Torquay an early lead before Robinson converted a penalty. The forward, who scored for Shrewsbury when they drew 1-1 with Torquay in October, added his second three minutes later. Chris Zebroski struck the fourth from close range fourth before an Ian Sharps own goal.
Leaders Chesterfield picked a good day to lose 2-0 at Crewe, as none of the five teams immediately below them at the start of play won. Clayton Donaldson and substitute Danny Shelley were on target for Dario Gradi’s team.
