WHAT IS IT? A collaboration between Land Rover and Sonim, the maker of rugged mobile phones. It's the first GSM handset to gain an IP-67 International Protection certificate, so it's officially, independently confirmed as being submersible to a depth of one metre, dust and dirtproof, shockproof and puncture-resistant. The S1 will also tolerate 400kg of weight, and Land Rovers have been driven over it to prove the point. The extra-wide buttons mean it can be operated even by rugged men wearing gloves, while the powerful speaker is loud enough to blare above the engine din in a Defender's cabin. Other features include GPS, a torch and a 2Mp camera.
