Lancashire set t20 record with demolition of Derbyshire

Victory with 11 overs to spare is fastest 10-wicket win after Falcons stumble to their lowest total

Lancashire continued their climb up the North Division with a thumping 10-wicket Friends Life t20 win over Derbyshire at Old Trafford.

Pakistan seamer Junaid Khan picked up three wickets as the visitors were restricted to just 81 for eight after captain Luke Sutton had elected to bat first.

Lancashire opener Stephen Moore then made a mockery of the visiting total with 54 not out off 33 balls, including four sixes, as he and Tom Smith secured the victory with 11 overs to spare. It was the fastest 10-wicket win in the history of English Twenty20 cricket and Derbyshire's lowest total.

Junaid, 21, struck twice in his first two overs, having both Wes Durston and Garry Park caught behind by Gareth Cross. Chesney Hughes and Ross Whiteley tried to mount a Falcons fightback with a stand of 29 before Hughes played on to Farveez Maharoof for 16, a score none of his teammates could match.

Elsewhere, Nottinghamshire maintained their lead at the top of the division with victory by six wickets over Yorkshire at Headingley.

Skipper Andrew Gale with 62 and Jonny Bairstow with an unbeaten 41 from 26 balls were the mainstays of the Yorkshire innings but the visitors were always favourites to chase down 152 for five. Iain Wardlaw gave the home crowd brief hope by getting rid of Riki Wessels and Tamim Iqbal in the space of four balls and when Adam Voges was bowled by Azeem Rafiq shortly afterwards Nottinghamshire were 105 for four.

But Chris Read and Scott Elstone knocked off the remaining runs with little trouble to leave Yorkshire with very little hope of making the quarter-finals. Read blasted Richard Pyrah for consecutive mid-wicket sixes to finish unbeaten on 26 from 15 balls.

At Chester-le-Street, former England T20 captain Paul Collingwood proved a matchwinner as Durham beat Worcestershire by 28 runs.

Chasing Durham’s 161 for six, in which Ian Blackwell made 77 and Collingwood 29, Worcestershire were 60 for one after seven overs when Collingwood struck twice in two balls in his first over.

Moeen Ali was stumped for 29 and Collingwood then took a return catch to dismiss Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. He picked up two more wickets to finish with four for 19 as Worcestershire were all out for 133 with five balls remaining.

Leicestershire remain on course for a quarter-final place after a six-wicket win over Northamptonshire at Grace Road.

Australian all-rounder Andrew McDonald again played a starring role for the Foxes, taking three wickets and then following it up with an unbeaten 38 to steer his side to victory with 13 balls to spare.

Northamptonshire struggled towards 130 for nine with nobody able to better opener Bilal Shafayat's 28 and Harry Gurney claiming three late wickets.

Despite losing Josh Cobb and Jacques Du Toit with only 10 on the board, Leicestershire comfortably reached their target with McDonald well supported by Will Jefferson, whose 41 from 21 balls included five sixes.
